You watched every game, carefully tracked team stats, and proudly wore your favorite player’s jersey all season long. Now only four quarters stand between your team and the coveted championship title.
As committed lifelong fans, you, your family, and your friends are all beyond excited to root for your hometown football team in the Big Game. It’s a monumental occasion for you, especially because you’ll be there to cheer them on in person for the first time. And because 5G launched in the stadium and you have a 5G smartphone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform, you’ll be able to experience the game in brand new ways. Not all of your friends and family are coming with you, but with 5G, staying connected and celebrating the big moments together is seamless.
You settle into your seat, sporting your team jersey, with a delicious order of cheesy nachos in hand. Right away, the game’s off to an exhilarating start, with an interception and touchdown for your team. It’s an action-packed first quarter, but the typical breaks in between plays provide a perfect opportunity to dive deeper into the game. Using your 5G smartphone, you can keep up with more detailed stats in real time and even access behind-the-scenes footage and instant replays in HD, and from great angles different from your actual view. During halftime, you also video chat with friends and family watching at home to discuss the big plays (and of course, trash talk the other team).
How it works: Getting service was nearly impossible in dense crowds like this with 4G. With 5G on Snapdragon, however, there’s network capacity to support more devices than ever before, as well as the high speeds and low latency to enable bandwidth-heavy experiences like video calls and streaming. Because the stadium has 5G and your phone is powered by the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System, it’s using Qualcomm Signal Boost to fine-tune the device’s antenna and enable great coverage and a smooth experience — even when the stadium is packed with tens of thousands of people, many of whom are on their phones too.
When you hang up the video chat as the third quarter begins, it’s exciting to know your friends watching from home are immersed in the game, too. They’re experiencing every run, blitz, interception, and touchdown in VR. Thanks to 6DoF, or six degrees of freedom of movement, they can transport to the best seat in the stadium (even better than yours), or follow the action up and down the field. It’s almost like they’re really there.
How it works: VR isn’t new, but it’s never felt quite this real. With 5G on Snapdragon, multi-gigabit speeds and low latency unlock truly immersive and boundless experiences that not only put you in different environments, but allow you to move around in them as if you’re actually there. Together with NextVR, we’ve demoed this experience at our own Snapdragon Tech Summit.
As the clock runs down in the fourth quarter, it’s clear victory is near. Despite using 5G devices continuously throughout the game, both your smartphone and your friends’ VR headsets have plenty of battery left. It’s a relief to be able to immerse yourself in the game without worry.
How it works: Among the suite of advanced technologies in the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System are Qualcomm 5G PowerSave and Qualcomm Wideband Envelope Tracking, which use the modem’s intelligence to minimize power consumption during transmit and receive. Creating signal efficiency while maximizing quality is key to simultaneously supporting your all-day battery life, blazing-fast 5G speeds, and great network coverage.
Qualcomm made the once-thought-impossible technical breakthroughs to make 5G a reality, and now you can see Qualcomm everywhere you see 5G. We’re so excited for how this next generation of wireless can enrich our experiences and help the world connect, compute, and communicate in new ways.
